Privacy notice
Last updated 25 October 2026
This notice explains what PreChat collects on prechat.co.za, why, and the choices you have. We process personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect
When you join the waiting list: your name, email address, WhatsApp number (if you give it), what you sell (digital products, physical products or services), your city (if you choose one), and the date you agreed to be contacted.
When you visit the site:
- the pages you view and the website or link that brought you here, including campaign tags in the link (for example
utm_source); - your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and time zone;
- your approximate location (country, region and city) and network provider, worked out from your connection by our hosting provider;
- a random identifier stored in a cookie (
pc_vid) so we can tell repeat visits apart; - a one-way, salted hash of your IP address, used to stop abuse. We do not store the IP address itself.
Why we collect it
- To tell you when PreChat launches and to share related news, by email or WhatsApp. We will only contact you about PreChat.
- To understand which channels and campaigns bring people to the site, so we can spend our marketing effort well.
- To keep the waiting list free of spam and abuse.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which stores the data on our behalf. We may use an email or messaging provider to send launch updates.
How long we keep it
Visit records are deleted automatically after 12 months. Waiting-list details are kept until shortly after launch, or until you ask us to remove them.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or withdraw your consent to be contacted, at any time. Email info@prechat.co.za. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator.
Cookies
We use a single first-party cookie, pc_vid, which holds a random identifier and expires after one year. We use no advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
